Celebrating Women’s History Month: Jelena Miskic, Employee Spotlight Series

According to a recent study, women hold only 25% of all jobs in the technology industry. With a workforce of 50% women and 50% men, Perform[cb] is clearly leading the pack!. As we continue celebrating Women’s History Month, our fourth spotlight goes to Jelena Miskic, Backend Developer, who lives in Banja Luka, Bosnia. Learn more about her role models, adventurous spirit, and advice she has for women entering the workforce.

Q: Which female historical figure has been an inspiration to you?

There are so many historical women in tech who have really paved the way for others like myself. To name a few, Rosalind Franklin, Hertha Ayrton, Ada Bryon (Lovelace), Marie Curie, the list goes on. These women were very ahead of their time regardless of the circumstances, which I admire very much. Their dedication to the field of science and technology has contributed to and changed the course of history.

Q: If you have a female figure of inspiration within Perform[cb], please provide some details around who they are and how they inspire or drive you?

It’s impossible to name just one, as all of the women here at Perform[cb] are amazing. All of my closest female team members here in the Bosnian office are hardworking, smart, dedicated women and I enjoy every single day working with them. Hearing about everyone’s accomplishments and successes is what makes my day and pushes me to be better, always.

Q: If you could give your teenage or childhood self a piece of advice, what would it be?

It’s important to start every challenge with an “I can do it” attitude and don’t let yourself overthink it. I’ve learned that along the way through my personal and professional experience. While there will always be obstacles, you can overcome anything when you set your mind to it.

Q: How has Perform[cb] helped nurture your career development?

Perform[cb] has truly shown me what is capable with a sincere team effort. I’ve been able to learn so much from my mentors and fellow colleagues about new technology, programming languages, databases, workflows, and more. Since initially joining as an intern in college, this job has pushed me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to reach my full potential.

Q: What do you enjoy most about Perform[cb]’s company culture?

This company does a great job at celebrating tiny successes. Every team member’s progress and achievements are noticed and recognized, no matter how small. All of the celebrations, team-building activities, birthday perks, and benefits add to the amazing culture we share at Perform[cb].

Q: What would be your advice to other women entering this industry?

Make sure to always invest in yourself and try to learn something new every day. There are limitless opportunities for resources – collaborate with other team members and don’t be afraid to ask all questions you may have along the way.

Q: What’s a fun fact about yourself?

My left foot is actually one size bigger than my right foot. Buying any pair of shoes, especially high heels, is not one of my favorite things to do!
