Enjoy 360-degree views from the highest point in Bangkok atop the Mahanakorn. In 50 seconds, you will travel north 74-stories in a high-speed elevator to an enclosed observation deck. Not sure where everything is? Take out your mobile phone to use augmented reality to find key landmarks around the city. From the 74th floor, take the glass-enclosed elevator above the bustling city to The Peak on the 78th story. At the summit, sip on a cocktail at the sky bar, take selfies from the clear observation Sky Walk and enjoy the Instagram worthy views of the sun setting. Wat Phra Chetuphon

No Guide to Exploring Bangkok would be complete without a visit to Wat Phra Cheuphon, one of the oldest and largest Buddhist temples in Bangkok. Situated right on the river and just south of The Grand Palace, the Wat Phra Cheuphon houses the world-famous Temple of the Reclining Buddha. One of the amazing amenities at this temple is the Wat Po Thai Traditional Medical School where you can receive a traditional Thai massage. For around $14 USD you can enjoy an hour-long massage. When visiting temples around Bangkok, remember to dress modestly in long pants or traditional dress. Wat Pho is located on Sanam Chai road and Maharaj road next to the Grand Palace. Operating hours are: 08:00 – 18:30 Admission fee: 200 Baht.

Muay Thai Boxing has been the national martial art sport in Thailand for centuries.  Experience one of Bangkok’s most exciting entertainments up close. Grab some ringside seats and enjoy the fight card. The spectators are split up into gambling, tourists, and locals sections and tickets are sold at the entrance but you can also book though many of the hotel concierges. Make sure that you check the calendar in advance here as fight nights are not every night of the week.

 

 

 

How To Get Around:

Bangkok is notorious for gridlock traffic so follow these tips to avoid getting stuck. Taxis are cheap and fares start at 35 Baht roughly $1 USD. Ensure the meter is on and showing 35 baht because all taxis are metered but some drivers will try to negotiate-this is not allowed and should not be done. There are enough taxis available everywhere. At night time, taxis are the most convenient, as the Skytrain and Subway do not operate after midnight. Your trip to Bangkok would incomplete without a ride in a Tuk Tuk. These are bright, colorful 3-wheeled motorcycles that can get you where you’re going fast while exploring Bangkok.

Looking for an adventure that takes you into the heart of the local communities? Check out bike rental companies in Bangkok that can take you on a day or evening tour. Renting a bike or booking a tour is a great way to give your feet a rest from walking and you won’t have to get stuck in any traffic jams. Many of the tours include lunch and dinner and the guides know the rich history and landmarks of each of these neighborhoods.

If you are looking for a truly unique culinary experience while exploring Bangkok, it’s time to try Thai street food! Bangkok is known for its extensive street food culture and there are options on just about every corner in Chinatown. One of the most acclaimed street vendors is, Raan Jae Jai, the only Michelin starred street-food eatery in Bangkok’s Old Town. The owner, Jae Jai prepares each dish in her signature black apron and ski goggles to protect her eyes from the open charcoal flames and hot oil. For around  $25 USD, order the famous crab omelet or drunkard’s noodles. Call ahead and make a reservation or you might wait up to 2 hours for one of the 12 tables to enjoy this local delicacy.
